Valuable progress at family estate

Valuable progress at family estate

Energizing program at a 200 acre estate in the center of the Netherlands. In 2015 the management transitioned to the 4th generation. Like their parents they had the pronounced desire to bring and keep the estate in top shape ecologically, culture historically and scenic recreational. Big challenge was the transition in a time of more complex legislation and decreasing subsidies. Lasting sustainability requires a financially healthy estate independent of subsidies. There was no solid foundation for the management of the forest area and logging, finances nor consultation with governments. Big changes where needed: facilitation of (limited) housing as means of income, vacation rental, a center of information, the construction of a food forest, the start of ‘way-of-nature-activities’ and the construction of an ecoduct. On all areas valuable progress has been made. There is a good mutual communication, in respect with each other. The financial basis has been solidified. Activities have a jump start, the project for housing is on target, rental is running well and there is a good income from the logging. (In co-creation with ECOintention practitioner Monique Schep.)
